Art Deco nameplate on Miami Beach apartment building

A one-of-a-kind Tropical Deco nameplate on The Beachway Apartments, designed in 1940 by architect L. Murray Dixon in Miami Beach's historic South Beach neighborhood.

This photograph was made in the early 1990s. Since then, the sign was somehow removed even though the building is in a supposedly protected historic preservation district.

City preservation officials say they lack the manpower to police the loss of little architectural details like this.
